EIGHT REASONS TO VOTE REPUBLICAN
It’s easy to see that our guys aren’t perfect – but this election isn’t about suitability for Rushmore. It’s about maintaining some chance for conservative ideas and policies to prevail at a time of danger and challenge to the nation.
For a more personal view, read MICHELLE MALKIN'S post on getting out TO VOTE.
For all the White House's faults, however, there is no doubt in my mind that Republicans as a group are better informed, better equipped and better able to lead this country in a time of war than the Democrats. The donkey party is led by thumb-sucking demagogues in prominent positions who equate Bush with Hitler and Jim Crow, call him a liar in front of high school students and the world, fantasize about impeachment and fetishize the human rights of terrorists who want to kill me.
Put simply: There are no grown-ups in the Democrat Party.
Michael Medved gives eight very solid reasons to vote Republican, especially if you are an angry or disaffected Republican sitting on the fence. He should have also given eight very solid reasons to vote. Michelle Malkin gives very practical personal solid reasons to no not only vote Republican, but TO VOTE.
The problem, at least according to the so called polls, is Republicans staying home on election day- not voting at all. This will guarantee a Democratic sweep. The reason Republicans won the House and the Senate twelve years ago was Republicans voting and Centrist and Conservative Democrats switching to vote Republican. People, especially Democrats, were fed up with the Democrats. Now people of all stripes are fed up with the Republicans. Unfortunately the alternative choice will be disastrous to our very American way of life.
The Republican Party has made some major mistakes, not recently, but over the past few years, one of which, they sat on their laurels. The last Presidential election should have been a clarion bell for them. They should have started a political mobilization the day after the election to strengthen the electorate. The Party should have also tried to convert the Centrist and Conservative Democrats to their cause. Once again, the hard core ideology won out over practical and efficient politics. This is the essential problem; the Republicans have lost site of practical street politics.
The Republicans major mistake was their celebration twelve years ago when taking over the House and the Senate. They were then, and are now, happy with a mere majority. If they were really serious about governance, they would have started a campaign right there and then to go further and push for the two thirds majority needed to get effective legislation passed.
Their second mistake was what I now call the Wal-Mart offensive. As you may know, Wal-Mart has implemented a GOTV program for its employees. The Republicans should have contacted their major corporate and business donors and urged them to implement similar programs. The Democrats have the Media and the Hollywood celebrities. There are some CEOS who are just as popular and charismatic. We have to fight fire with fire.
Their third mistake was the ground game. The Republicans failed to keep boots on the ground. They won some elections then they cut and ran. The Democrats keep their boots on the ground all the time.
They are always campaigning. The Republicans need to build an effective local ground game; precinct by precinct, stressing practical politics instead of ideology. “What we can do for you” versus political babble. They have to strengthen precincts in the cities and towns, especially the major urban areas. The Republicans refuse to acknowledge what the Democrats have known all along; all politics is local.
Lastly, the reason that the Republicans were able to win twelve years ago was unification. Newt Gingrich and a few others unified the party into a solid coalition stressing the most important aspect of our life; the economy. The Democrats, at the time, were like scattered sheep. The Democrats took this page out of the Republican play book and ran with it. They are unified as a party. The Republicans are becoming the scattered sheep.
It may be too late for this election, but the day after the election the Republicans better get their act together.
